Obituary for David Joseph O'Neill

Our Dad, Our Friend, Our Hero

A Celebration of Life will be held at the family home (166 Goulais Avenue. S.S.M, ON) on August 13, 2022, starting at 1 p.m. Stop in to say Hey or stay all day! BYOB and chair if possible.

On November 27, 2021 Our dad left this world with his wife and girls by his side.
Loving husband and best friend of 46 years to Shirley. World’s greatest dad to Mel, Denise and Tanya Proud papa of 5 beautiful granddaughters: Carrissa, Brielle, Kailey, Ava and Emily and 1 special grandson and namesake DJ.
He was the son of Terry and Marg O'Neill and brother of Roy (Rita), Andy, Harvey, Dennis and Jimmie (Marlene).
Dad was proud of his Irish heritage and carried his name with the utmost pride. He ventured across Canada to meet his family and create a bond with them that lasted a lifetime.
He liked to joke around and tilt a few afternoon beers often being the life of the party. His love of music was displayed in his 5 jukeboxes which would host the entertainment.
He also looked forward to his vacations in Florida where he also met lifelong friends.
Dad was a hardworking man and never missed a day of work during his career at Algoma Steel. He loved his garage where he spent many years doing body work and painting vehicles.
Dad loved to cook. Soup and homemade Baileys were 2 of his specialties that we are going to miss.
Saying goodbye to dad was the hardest thing we have ever had to do. He taught us well and tried to prepare us for whatever life may throw our way, but nothing could prepare us for this. Our worlds will never be the same.
Dad touched the lives of so many people. He made so many friends throughout his life, a few of those friendships went from childhood right till the end.
He was always smiling and happy. He never complained and everyone was always welcomed at the O'Neill house. He would do anything for anyone and his personality made any life brighter with him in it.
He is free from pain and is now reunited with all his family and friends on the other side.
Till we meet again Daddy.
We would like to thank dad's nurses April and Shawn, therapist Corey and an extra special thank you to Nurse Marnie for going above and beyond and being with us till the very end. We will never forget you.
In Dave’s memory, donations made to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
