Obituary for Viola Ida Gibson (Martin)

GIBSON, Viola (nee Martin)

Unexpectedly Saturday, April 15, 2017, in her 91st year. Beloved daughter of John and Jessie Martin, Vi was predeceased by her husbands: Bob (1981) and Thomas (1947); her brothers: Jim, Jack, Bill, Joe, Preston, and Richard, her sisters: Mary and Amelia; and her sons: Robert Gibson and Thomas Rogers (Lil) (Becky), and her dear friend Vera. Viola is lovingly remembered by her sister Margaret Duguay (Guy), her sons Donnie Rogers (Rene), Wayne Rogers (Pat), Stephen Gibson (late Terry), her 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren, as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Viola led an active and vibrant life and took great joy in serving and caring for others. Her years with Van Daele Manor, as a sister of the Rebekahs, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and a volunteer for a variety of charities, as well as her devotion to her family, all attest to her selfless nature. Viola enjoyed travelling and saw wonders as far away as Australia and Germany and a number of European countries as well as her beloved Hawaii and much of Canada. Most of all, Viola loved her family and friends, she loved to host and participate in large family gatherings, and she took great pride in her family, as we did her. We will miss her pies, her turkeys and hams, her stories and her hugs, but most of all we will miss her presence. She was many things to many people and while the world is a little darker for having lost her, heaven just got a little brighter.

Viola’s family invites you to her Celebration of Life on Sunday, April 30 anytime between 1:PM and 4:PM in the Common Room at 277 Northern Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations will be gratefully accepted by The Alzheimer’s Society or The Canadian Cancer Society.
